What to expect...

This seasonal production of A Christmas Carol takes place in the main auditorium at the Gate Theatre, with audience members seated in a traditional proscenium theatre. The story follows Ebenezer Scrooge across one long Christmas Eve as they move between scenes with the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Future, meeting familiar characters like the Cratchit family and Tiny Tim along the way. The staging uses lighting changes, sound effects, haze and occasional loud moments to create a ghostly atmosphere, with a full company of actors playing multiple roles on a compact stage. There is a mid-show interval so families can stretch legs and use the toilets. Best suited to older children who can sit through a full-length play and handle a few tense, darker scenes, it works well as an evening out or a weekend matinee trip into town.
