What to expect...

Kids join a short hands-on activity in the Discovery Zone of the Dead Zoo Lab at Collins Barracks. A Museum Educator brings out objects from the handling collection, including real and replica furs, fossils, bones and minerals. Children inspect the specimens up close, chat with the educator and ask questions about the animals they come from. After the handling activity, families can pick up a pencil and a self-guided creative sheet and draw a favourite animal from the Dead Zoo Lab displays. The session runs as a two-hour drop-in window in the open gallery, so families can arrive anytime during the session and take part when space is available. The short educator activity lasts about 5–10 minutes per family. No booking is required, though there may be a short wait if the educator table is busy.
