About

A Victorian promenade running from Martello Terrace at the harbour south to the foot of Bray Head, with a shingle beach on one side and a strip of grass on the other. Kids cycle and scoot the wide paved path, play ball on the green, and pick through pebbles at the water's edge. The beach is steep shingle for the first twenty metres, then sand and stones nearer the sea. An enclosed playground partway along means smaller kids can be let loose while someone keeps walking. The wrought iron railings and bandstand are original, and the arcades along Strand Road still pull a crowd on a sunny day.

  • Victorian promenade with original wrought iron railings and bandstand
  • Enclosed free playground with separate toddler and older-kid equipment
  • Grass strip alongside the prom for ball games and running about
  • Wide paved path that suits scooters, bikes and prams
  • Lifeguarded beach through the summer bathing season
  • Amusement arcades and ice cream along Strand Road
  • Steep one-kilometre climb from the end of the prom to the stone cross on Bray Head
