Fernhill is a 34-hectare former country estate on the hillside above Stepaside, now a council park looking out over Dublin Bay. The main draw for families is the big play space, with a woodland quarry theme, a 9-metre tower with two slides, an agility trail and a trampoline, plus a separate toddler area with its own swings and playhouse. Older kids can run laps of the 400m track or hurtle down the giant tube slide set into the hill. The 1820s gardens suit a slower wander, with a stream, huge redwoods and old rhododendrons along the paths. The ground climbs and dips throughout, so small legs will know they've had a walk.
