Hugh Lane Gallery
Modern and contemporary art gallery in Charlemont House with Bacon’s studio, Impressionist works and family workshops. Currently closed for multi-year refurbishment.
About
City art gallery in Charlemont House on Parnell Square North with a strong focus on modern and contemporary art. Families usually start in the rooms of French Impressionist and 20th-century painting before heading to the reconstructed London studio of Francis Bacon and the Sean Scully room. The building is compact enough to manage with children, with lifts between floors and wide corridors, and visits often combine a short look around with a workshop or Sunday concert. The gallery’s education team runs family workshops, Sunday sketching, teen culture clubs and summer camps during the year. From late September 2025 the building is temporarily closed for a multi-year refurbishment, so most public-facing activity is now happening off-site or online.
