Merrion Square Park
Central Georgian park in Dublin 2 with a Selfish Giant–themed playground, sculpture trail, Thursday food market and Sunday art railings.
About
Georgian garden park in the middle of Dublin 2, wrapped by townhouses and government buildings and laid out with curved paths, lawns and mature trees. Families usually head straight for the Selfish Giant playground at the south-east corner – a fenced space with a huge wooden giant to climb, basket swings, slides and quieter corners for younger kids. Inside the park there is a sculpture and memorial trail, lots of benches and open grass for picnics or a kickabout. On Thursdays at lunchtime a small food market sets up near the paths, and on Sundays the railings outside fill with local artists selling work. It suits everything from buggy naps and toddler pottering to older kids who want a run around between visits to the Natural History Museum or National Gallery across the road.
