About

Merrion Square Park Playground sits inside a Georgian city park just off Dublin’s museum quarter. The play area is fully fenced and themed around Oscar Wilde’s story The Selfish Giant, with chunky wooden equipment and winding shapes that feel like part of the garden. There are distinct spaces for different ages: low platforms, baby swings and a basket swing for smaller kids, and taller climbing frames, ropes and a big slide for older children. The surface is covered in woodchip rather than rubber. Parents tend to sit along the edges on benches while kids move between the play space and the nearby lawns and paths. Many families use the playground as a stop before or after the Natural History Museum or the National Gallery. It suits roughly ages 2–12, with enough challenge for school-age kids but still manageable for cautious toddlers with help. The park paths are buggy-friendly and mostly flat, though the play structures themselves involve steps and ladders.
