About

Ireland's oldest music conservatoire, on Westland Row since 1870, where Georgian townhouses sit alongside a new campus that opened in 2023. Families usually come for a specific event in the Whyte Recital Hall, a 312-seat oak-lined hall whose seats wrap around the stage in a horseshoe, so the audience sits close to the performers. Some events are aimed at children, such as Dublin Book Festival author talks, and some are free, like the Young Artists concerts by Junior RIAM students. RIAM also teaches children directly, from shared music classes for babies and toddlers with their grown-ups to individual lessons for teenagers. It's a working music school, so visits revolve around what's on.
