About
Large open plaza in the middle of Smithfield with cobbled paving, benches and plenty of space for kids to run, scoot and kick a ball. The Luas Red Line runs along one side, so trams are constantly passing, and older children like watching them come and go. A small playground sits towards the northern end of the square, and there are cafés, shops, hotels and the Lighthouse Cinema on the edges, so it’s easy to build a short outing around a snack or a film. Across the year the square hosts big public events such as Christmas markets, ice rinks and Irish music festivals, which can completely change the feel of the space.
