The Helix
DCU’s modern theatre complex with three performance spaces, a café bar and popular family shows, including the annual Christmas panto.
About
The Helix is a modern performing arts venue on the DCU campus in Glasnevin with three main spaces – Mahony Hall, The Theatre and The Space – plus bright foyer areas and a gallery. Families usually come here for big touring shows, the annual Christmas panto, children’s theatre, dance school showcases and concerts, so what you do on the day really depends on the performance you’ve booked. The foyers are spacious and easy to navigate with buggies, and there is a café bar for coffees, snacks and simple meals before a show. Seating is numbered with good sightlines in all three auditoriums, and staff are used to busy family performances with excited kids arriving in groups. The venue sits beside a large multi-storey car park on campus, so parking is straightforward compared with the city centre. It works best as a destination for a specific show rather than a drop-in attraction, and is particularly popular with families on winter weekends for panto matinees and early evening performances.
